GRISOLIA, Maricarmen. New concepts in science teaching: An action-research experience in a general physics course at University of Los Andes. Educere [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.37, pp.333-338. ISSN 1316-4910.
At the Mass, Movement and Energy course at the School of Education at the University of Los Andes, the students have shown less than satisfactory results in the last few semesters. Students show inconveniences when solving physics situation analysis problems where they have to apply mathematical equations and operations. They also show difficulties when relating conceptual contents with the activities approached in lab practice. In order to modify the course ’s work routine, it was initially proposed to carry out theory sessions in which students tried to solve the approached problems, leading to collective discussions of the possible solution and avoiding the use of pre-established procedures by the teacher. It was also decided to reduce the number of performed lab experiences in each session, and to discuss the meaning of the experimental results at the end of the practice. When evaluating these sessions, it was found that there also has to be an evaluation strategy modification. In this sense, it has been proposed to approach the subject with a constructivist view that allows participation from the students when deciding the criteria and evaluation mechanisms
