This article aims, on one hand, to question sexist and andocentric practices produced and reproduced through discourse in academical and institutional contexts, and on the other hand, to put forward strategies to eliminate gender discrimination through language. From the research on gender, androcentrism and sexism performed in the last 30 years, it was evidenced how sexism makes patriarchal systems legit, where women’s presence is diminished, darkened and eliminated. In consequence, we propose developing both collective and individual initiatives mainly from within the educational system in order to eliminate explicit and implicit gender discrimination
