In this article, using content analysis techniques, the concepts of heat, work, energy and the second declaration of Carnot’s theorem in thermodynamics for engineering university texts are studied. The presence of some explanations and concept cases with characteristics corresponding to spontaneous or not formal conceptions are evidenced, which could generate wrong interpretations in the student who is initiating itself in a thermodynamics course
