Abstract
PRASAD SINHA, Surendra et al. Conceptuation and descriptive analysis of institutional academic risk in venezuelan national universities: The case of the ULA. Educere [online]. 2007, vol.11, n.39, pp.653-663. ISSN 1316-4910.
The objective of this study is to suggest a new concept called Institutional Academic Risk (RAI, in Spanish): as the group of factors both external and internal that expose an academical institution to the influx and contingency of its quality progressive deterioration. To the efects, RAI-based indexes are built, just as the Professorial Capacity (ICP in Spanish) and its components, which incorporate academic education elements and professor seniority. Such concept is applicable to all national Venezuelan universities. The particular case of the University of Los Andes, Mérida, Venezuela is illustrated. The results show: four of the twelve universities researched in risk situation. The Gini coeficient shows inequality by faculty in the risk level, measured by the ICP. The indexes built based on the RAI detect the risk situation, which could not be corroborated by classic descriptive statistic.
