Abstract

CARMONA, María. Narrate, educate and philosophize: The novels of the philosophy program for children. Educere [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.40, pp.9-18. ISSN 1316-4910.

The novels that are part of the Philosophy Program for Children by Matthew Lipman are works of fiction where the characters extract by themselves the laws of reasoning and discover alternative philosophical points of view that have been introduced along the history of philosophy. The discovery method is the dialog combined with reflection. With this, it is fundamentally aimed to favor critique, creative and affective attitude in children by developing reasoning skills and their familiarization with the ethical components of human experience. It is about reinforcing both emotional and cognitive aspects via conversion of the classroom into a philosophical dialog community.

Keywords : narration; education; philosophy; dialog community.
