Abstract

PALADINES, Carlos. The project of a : social education. Educere [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.40, pp.159-169. ISSN 1316-4910.

Very few educational projects have highlighted so much the profound link of education with the social as Simon Rodriguez ’s. Hence his conception of American society, the same that, to his criteria, was marked by acute social conflicts and divided by a new gender of “dominators ” and “dominated ” constitutes the base of his educational project. Precisely, in Friend Advises, given to Latacunga College, written at Rafael Quevedo ’s request, Vice-chancellor of San Vicente de Latacunga College - Ecuador, Rodríguez develops the thesis that the educational task should be an entirely social task that conceives education as “public education”, a “popular education” and a “republican education”, oriented more to people from the countryside rather than from the city, with “units of experimentation and production ”, with “colonies of education for adults ”, under an observation-reflection-meditation (experimentation) methodology that allows overcome both the current “testamentary system ”, the “memoristic learning” thanks to a “understanding learning” and the own “Lancastrian ” system limitations of primary teaching. Rodríguez, from what was said, was one of the few founders of our republics who understood that a new conflict of a more eminent social character rather than political had been unleashed, because a new historical subject ha appeared, unexpected, excluded from basic services and property, and undesirable to many: the new oppressed masses, “sick of being mistreated on behalf of God, the King or the Republic.”

Keywords : Simón Rodríguez; testamentary system; social education; colonies of education for adults.
