Resumen

JAUREGUI, Ramón M. Don Simón Rodriguez. Educere [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.40, pp.171-176. ISSN 1316-4910.

Very few characters have existed to whom their biographers have deformed their lives so much as with don Simón Rodríguez, who allegedly, with no support whatsoever, was called extravagant, atheist, irreverent with all and everyone and who, unfairly, is compared to Rousseau, in spite being totally diferent both in the times they lived and the ideas they have left us. In the next lines an outline will be sketched of his life and work, divided according to the places he lived: Caracas, Europe and the Americas. Abandoned at birth, it is believed that he was born in Caracas in 1771. Here is where his educational work began, proposing reforms to the city ’s council that were not considered. In Europe he finished his education and when he returned to the Americas in 1823, he began to put his ideas into practice again and when he failed with his essays he was dedicated to put them in writing in a difficult work to read at the beginning, due to its style, but rich in educational proposals more valid today than when he wrote them.

Palabras clave : education; imitate; republican society.
