Abstract

OVELAR PEREYRA, Nora. Paulo Freire: Liking for freedom and passion for justice. Educere [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.40, pp.177-187. ISSN 1316-4910.

This article is a critique revision about Paulo Freire ’s thoughts on his conceptions of freedom, justice and the relation between these two values as contribution to a democratic citizen education. The liking for freedom in Freire ’s, his respect for alterity and his democratic posture linked to freedom are added to the meanings of justice in Freirerian work, which reverberates on indignation, claims for our intervention in the world and demands the acknowledgement of human dignity. Finally, the possibilities and tensions between freedom and justice in our societies are outlined.

Keywords : Freedom; justice; democracy; citizenship; education.
