Abstract

MORENO, Amado. Sociopolitical history of university and autonomy in Venezuela: Faces and masks. Educere [online]. 2008, vol.12, n.41, pp.351-377. ISSN 1316-4910.

Autonomous university and university autonomy in Venezuela are currently the object of a great confrontation and discussion. It is intimately linked to the change and transformation process led by the president of the Republic, Hugo Chávez F. In this confrontation and discussion several sectors are the fundamental actors: party supporters, academics, religious people, education business people, media owners, and government and university individuals among others. Our interest in this article is to create a sociopolitical history of the university and autonomy in Venezuela in order to get to know fundamental processes unknown, ignored, hidden and manipulated by many of these actors.

Keywords : university; university autonomy; colonial university; republican university; university reform; intervention; emancipation.
