The aim of the study was to determine if the instructional materials given by the university make it easier or more difficult to achieve the reading comprehension process. In this sense, favoring the qualitative research approach, and supported on the results obtained by the application of semi-structured interviews to a sample of its professors and students, information was gathered through which it seems that the hypothesis that such recourses would not be helping the students with building the meaning of the written text becomes stronger. This is a situation that could be demanding its revision and the later practice of action in favor of their evaluation aiming to accomplishing their function.
