This text is an essay about the formation of the school authority concept in children, and its specifications in the Brazilian historical-cultural context. Its aim is to present a debate on the politic formation of children and its relation with public space in Brazilian reality. The process of forming a social concept is understood as a product of social relations in a specific context. The concept of “cordial man”, that familiarizes or imposes an intimate aspect to relations in public spaces, is a characteristic in the Brazilian context. It is concluded by debating the need to make clear the distinction between intimate and public space for democratic coexistence.
