Within nosocomial infections (NI), surgical site infection (SSI) is a problem of great relevance, however, underreporting is common. The aim of this study was to determine the etiological agents of post-surgical infections at the "Luis Blanco Gasperi" Hospital, period June to August 2012. A descriptive field, cross-sectional and non-experimental study was conducted from a totall of 528 patients undergoing surgery, 8.5% (n= 45) had clinical suspicion of SSI resulting positive for microbial growth 5.49% (n= 29). The isolated bacteria were predominantly gram-negative bacilli (77.27%), with prevalence of Enterobacteriaceae family members, particularly Escherichia coli (18.18%). It was also found as epidemiological pattern from patients, a prevalence of adults with an average of 53 years, female and 48.28% from the same community (Valencia municipality, Carabobo state). The pattern of in vitro susceptibility to antibiotics, reported a high rate of sensitivity to aminoglycosides and carbapenems, 42.11% of the clinical isolates showed some mechanism of resistance to antimicrobials.
