Currently in the Venezuelan population there is a boom in the number of followers who have dedicated themselves to the practice of a sport, this is due to healthy vision in the social sector has been given to this phenomenon, however, this practice It can be done with two purposes; recreational or competitive, depending on their nature impacting the health of different forms. This paper aims to study the relationship between sport and the social dimension of health, it considered a social phenomenon that impacts on the lives of individuals within a society because of its many facets in education, economic, political, social, cultural and public health in a society. The methodology is documentary, made through a comprehensive literature review. Among the most important findings are that if the physical - sport activity is competitive character, high requirement may adversely affect the health of an individual, occurring changes in the physical order as sports injuries, the psychological as personality disorders and mental imbalances and social order affecting certain normal processes such as family, education and work. We propose a re significance of social representation that exists in Venezuela and in public policies on sports, valued as a healthy activity for the field of medicine and related sciences.
