BAEZ, María. Transsexuality from the perspective of sociology of the body. Salus [online]. 2015, vol.19, suppl., pp.34-40. ISSN 1316-7138.

To deepen the dynamics that are being generated in society especially regarding sexuality transsexualism, it is necessary to present different views contrast with the historically dominant thoughts. The aim of this article is to present the Sociology of the Body as a conceptual framework for understanding the process of corporeality as it is subversive transsexuality. I start from the position that our occidental sexual model has historically raised and sustained on natural and unquestionable issues that there are only two sexes starting from a body with visible characteristics and certain premises. These bodies are assigned and reassigned with two dominant identities, if you have a penis the identity corresponds a male, on the contrary, if the body has a vagina the identity is as a woman. However, in our society this dichotomous system designed and established, find cracks in their bodies beyond this natural equation as its transsexuality. This trial follows a theoretical review of the exponents of the sociology of the body. This social visión changed the perception was the same throughout history, stating that the body is not merely a biological entity, seen through the biomedical, anatomy, biology and biopower psi disciplines, but which is affected by social influences such experiences, context of life, norms, values experienced by a human being in its life cycle.

Palavras-chave : Transsexualism; sociology body; biopower; sexual identity.
