Abstract

ESPINOLA BENITEZ, Ebelio. Christern & company and the German businessmen of Maracaibo: 1900-1911. SAPIENS [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.2, pp.57-76. ISSN 1317-5815.

In this article we intend to reconstruct the activities of Christern & company, and the German businessmen of Maracaibo during the years 1900-1911, a period in which Christern & Co. and other German firms consolidated their economic growth in the Zulian capital. These firms were Breuer, Moller & Co., Blohm & Co., Steinvorth & Co., H.L. Boulton Jr. & Co., Beckmann & Co., and Van Dissel, Rode & Co. In order of importance these German commercial enterprises held the first eight places. At that time Christern & Co. was a renowned firm importing all kinds of merchandise: German, French, English and North American.
