Abstract

MUNOZ L., Diego A.. Democratic Teacher in XXth Century Pedagogues. SAPIENS [online]. 2006, vol.7, n.2, pp.191-213. ISSN 1317-5815.

In the Pedagogy of the XXth century Dewey, Freinet and Freire make an option for democracy in the school. This work studies the educational proposal of each one of them to infer a possible profile of democratic educators. We identify them as committed to the construction of democracy as a political and social horizon, aware of the importance of the relationships between school and life and as promoters of an intense network of intra and inter-institutional relationships. The democratic educator is called to be formed permanently in association with others to transform the school in a mutual effort that will demand from him a high level of intellectual, civic and political discipline consistent with their social responsibility. Their democratic commitment is translated in an ethical attitude of respect towards the student and an awareness their concerns and interests.
