The purpose ofthis work is an attempt to draw the complex web ofhistorical, cultural, social, technical and food- nutritional factors that are linked in a particular way around a fruit which is native to America and transformed from the colonial era the idiosyncrasies of Venezuela and the world, and even our present evolution. This wonderful fruit is Cocoa, called "food of the gods" both by Native Americans, and men from Europe who called Theobroma. First we describe the main historical background of cocoa in the sub region of Barlovento and how it became the protagonist of his conformation and geographical space. Secondly, and as a consequence of the above, we approach the interpretation of a geo-economics of cocoa with some of its social and cultural implications, and thirdly we look at the process of preparing the Chocolate and its variants and the nutritional benefits ofthe product as a bastion ofa sub region where the land, climate, cocoa and nigger found a destination.
