Nowadays, the educational process developed in the university context is guided by the constructivist paradigm, which emphasizes the so important students main role in the construction of their own learning process (Sangronis y Valera, 2003). This paper, framed into the documental design, stands for the review of a series of research works and other publications related to the study of the constructivist-principle apparently indispensable presence in the university-level-English-as-a-foreign-language instruction, by which the students are no longer seen as passive subjects who just receive information but as active participants who get directly involved in their knowledge construction in and out ofthe classroom. That is why this essay is intended to invite to reflect about the role university teachers have, as facilitators and guides, in their students production during this transitional process.
