Taking as its starting point the knowledge ofthe operations which are executed for the learning (addition and subtraction logic, horizontal classification, multiple classification, correspondence, inclusion in class, reversibility, seriation, transformation, and transitivity), also called mental operativity, the present investigation seeks to determine the correlation of these transactions with the performance in students of introduction to the calculus. The selected sample was formed by 24 students of the specialties of physics mathematics and industrial education ofthe IPMJMSM. Two instruments were applied: the Test ofAbstract Reasoning Ability ofShipley (1940) and the Figural Test ofClassic Piagetian Tasks. The statistical analysis ofthe variables derived from the applied instruments was made by using the techniques of descriptive and inferential statistics, the SPSS program was used. Regarding to the results obtained we see that the performance is linearly related to the operations of abstract reasoning like addition and logic subtraction, seriation, reversibility, transitivity and inclusion of class.
