Abstract

The genesis of environmental education is in the 70’s, and emerges as a global concern for the destabilization of natural systems, forcing the international community to think the need for change in science, among them The science of education is included, in order to give answers to the growing and new problems that the humanity faces. In the search of change that today the social sciences presents, the environmental education maintain a dual epistemology, which is manifested in two trends: the modern of positivism, determinism and conduct of the Deep Ecology and the reconstructive emerging paradigm of the postmodernism called Humanistic environmentalism, where sustainable development sets the pace for new ways for the man: the production and the environment. This is documentary study where we examine the various trends and epistemological paradigms that currently coexist in environmental education. Its importance is focused on the interest to determine the genesis and evolution of the environmental education to compare trends and paradigms that define them theoretically.
