Abstract

Strategies to improve the drafting of summaries written by students of higher education. SAPIENS [online]. 2012, vol.13, n.2, pp.15-42. ISSN 1317-5815.

The objective of this research was to see if the implementation of strategies based on the principles of textual linguistics would contribute to improve the problems of drafting summaries written by students of Higher Education. It is a participatory action-investigation, for which a sample of twenty-two (22) participants who were selected, all were attending to the course of Spanish Language at the Pedagogical Rural Institute "The Mácaro". A proposal of workshops with the theoretical contributions of Cassany (1988 - 1999) was developed, also the macrorules of Van Dijk (1988) and the writing phases of Flower and Hayes (1980), from which writing practices were conducted for the preparation of the summaries. The results confirm the importance of the text function as a communication unit and the various theoretical approaches used in the proposal as basic strategies in developing written communicative competence of trainees.

Keywords : text linguistics; summaries; macrorules; writing phases.
