Objective: Detecting cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors in a population of university professors. Methods: This is a transverse descriptive study. From 133 university professors, 70 were selected at random according to inclusions approaches, between 18 and 55 years old, asymptomatic, 40 women and 30 men. The studied factors were; sex, family history, smoking habits, obesity, dislipidemia, high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, elevated protein C reactive, hyperhomocisteinemia, hyperfibrinogenemia, microalbuminury, and subclinical hypothyroidism. Results: The main risk factors found were: smoking habits 57.7%, overweight and obesity 75.6%, high blood pressure 31.4%, type 2 diabetes mellitus 15.7%, and hipertriglyceridemia in 62.5% and 46% of female and male respectively. The global cardiovascular risk was calculated, the 42,9% of the people showed moderate risk and 15,9% showed a high risk. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated the presence of cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors in people seemingly healthy. It is important the precocious boarding of this problem through the detection of these factors in the daily clinical practice and the improvement of the lifestyle.
