HOMEZ DE DELGADO, Belinda. Hormonas en la mama: De la fisiología a la enfermedad. Rev. Venez. Endocrinol. Metab. [online]. 2008, vol.6, n.2, pp.9-14. ISSN 1690-3110.
On the mammary gland act multiple hormones involved in its development and its histological physiology. The histological stages of the mammary gland development help to understand the relationship between them and the occurrence of breast neoplasm. This review summarizes the histological changes of the mammary gland and the effects of the major hormones that act on it. The adequate hormone balance is essential for the proper development and maintenance of a healthy mammary tissue, while a hormonal imbalance could be associated with benign and malignant breast disease. In this regard, much remains to be clarified.
