Objective: To evaluate the frequency of physical activity level and its association with cardiovascular risk factors in a rural community from San Diego, Carabobo, Venezuela. Methods: Ninety-five individuals older than 18 years were evaluated. It was determined weight, height, waist circumference, blood pressure and glucose, triglycerides, total cholesterol, LDLc and HDLc in serum. A survey was conducted to measure personal history of cardiovascular disease and lifestyle, while physical activity level was measured by International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), in its short form. Results: Fifty-four percent of individuals were inactive physically, while those active regularly no exceeded 35%. A high frequency of individuals with low HDLc (85%) followed by body mass alterations (68%) as well as abdominal obesity (57%) was found. The hypertensive people were less than 30%. No statistically significant differences in biochemical alterations between individuals evaluated according to their level of physical activity were found. Conclusions: In the rural community evaluated a low frequency of physical activity and a high frequency of cardiovascular risk factors were found, so it is recommended to establish health promotion strategies involving rural communities.
