Abstract

QUINTERO, Yurimay et al. The study of obesity from different disciplines. Multiple approaches one same vision. Rev. Venez. Endocrinol. Metab. [online]. 2020, vol.18, n.3, pp.95-106.  Epub Apr 27, 2021. ISSN 1690-3110.

The purpose of this review is to analyze the importance of incorporating Social Sciences in the study of health problems as important as obesity. The divergences and convergences of the different epistemological positions dedicated to the study of obesity are analyzed, among which Biomedicine, Nutrition, Psychology, Psychiatry, Psychoanalysis, Sociology and Anthropology stand out. Regardless of the various theoretical currents within the discipline that have been dedicated to the study of obesity, we can observe in general that the approach from the social sciences continues in constant resistance to the biological sciences. The exchange and feedback of the possible contributions from the different fields of study is evident and essential, allowing, not only to enrich the knowledge with various sources, but also to generate proposals and alternative solutions to the new, complex and changing situations around the problem of obesity and its effects.

Keywords : Obesity; biomedicine; nutrition; psychology; psychiatry; psychoanalysis; sociology; anthropology.
