Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency and genotypes of human papillomavirus (HPV) in students at the University of Carabobo. Aragua Nucleus, using the technique of chain reaction (PCR) with subsequent restriction enzyme analysis (RFLP). Was conducted sampling for conventional cytology and molecular diagnosis to 43 students between 17 and 41 years old. The Viral positivity was 34.9%. Were detected five types of HPV. In decreasing order of frequency were 6 (46.7%); 11 (26.7%); 53 (13.3%) y 31 and 35 (6.7% each). In no case was found HPV type 16, 18, or cases of multiple infections. Predominance of low-risk genotypes with 73.4%, The age group that presented the highest percentage of positive cases was 20 to 24 years (53.3%). 100% of HPV cases of AR occurred in patients aged 18 to 24 years. The cytology reported 20.9% of cases with HPV, while PCR-RFLP detected 34.9% of cases with HPV. In conclusion these results preliminary, provides useful data on the status of HPV infection in the group of university students evaluated.
