Abstract

PARRA-HENAO, Gabriel; GARCIA PAJON, Carlos Mario  and  COTES TORRES, José Miguel. Insecticidal activity of vegetal extracts on Rhodnius prolixus and Rhodnius pallescens (Hemiptera: Reduviidae). Bol Mal Salud Amb [online]. 2007, vol.47, n.1, pp.125-137. ISSN 1690-4648.

Extracts from vegetal species Annona muricata, Mammea americana, Melia azedarach, Ricinus communis and the insecticides nicotine and delthametrin were tested for repellent, ovicidal and insecticidal properties against eggs and nymphs of Rhodnius prolixus and R. pallescens. The lowest values of LC50 in %W/W to R. prolixus and R. pallescens was: A. muricata 1.02 - 1.74 and M. azedarach 1.77 - 1.74. The extract of M. americana had a weaker effect on the triatominae species LC50 4.33 and 2.61. Repellency fluctuated between 51- 58% and hatching was inhibited between 10- 25%. Toxicity tests were considered less promising as being above the maximum concentration recommended by GTZ.
