Abstract

ANEZ, Néstor  and  CRISANTE, Gladys. Survival of culture forms of Trypanosoma cruzi in experimentally contaminated food. Bol Mal Salud Amb [online]. 2008, vol.48, n.1, pp.91-94. ISSN 1690-4648.

The survival of Trypanosma cruzi culture forms in contaminated food is reported. In 8 out 11 (73%) samples of fruits and other vegetables experimentally contaminated with T. cruzi, the parasite was able to survive from 6 to 72 hours. The major number of survivor flagellates was detected from 6 h to 18 h post contamination. The potential epidemiological implication of this finding is discussed.
