Lutzomyia longipalpis species complex with neotropical distribution are the main vectors of visceral leishmaniasis. In Venezuela, and the two species of the complex are designated L. longipalpis sensu lato (C2 species) with a distribution north of the Orinoco (mostly) and L. pseudolongipalpis (distributed in Lara state).
