Abstract

BUENO MARI, Rubén; BERNUES BANERES, Alberto; CHORDA OLMOS, Francisco Alberto  and  JIMENEZ PEYDRO, Ricardo. Contributions to the knowledge of the distribution and biology of Anopheles algeriensis Theobald, 1903 in Spain. Bol Mal Salud Amb [online]. 2011, vol.51, n.1, pp.93-96. ISSN 1690-4648.

In this paper we provided a review about the occurrence of the potential malaria vector, Anopheles algeriensis Theobald, 1903, in Spain with the addition of new distribution data. Furthermore information about interspecific affinity with other species of mosquitoes present in the study area is also included. Finally, due to the high synanthropic degree exhibited by An. algeriensis, it is important to analyze the potential interest of the species in order to prevent the eventual emergence of malaria transmission cycles in the region studied.

Keywords : Anopheles algeriensis; malaria; mosquito-borne diseases; vector control; Public Health; Spain.
