Resumen

PARRA-HENAO, Gabriel; DELGADO, Daniel  y  ALARCON, Erika Patricia. Especies de Anopheles en el Canón del Río Sogamoso, Santander, Colombia, al inicio de la puesta en marcha del proyecto hidroeléctrico . Bol Mal Salud Amb [online]. 2012, vol.52, n.2, pp.287-294. ISSN 1690-4648.

Knowledge of the diversity and distribution of Anopheles populations in areas of power plants allow the determination of malaria transmission risk and provide recomendations about prevention, surveillance and control. Diversity and abundance of malaria vectors in the confluence area of Sogamoso river dam was determined at the beginning of the implementation of the hydroelectric project. For mosquito catching, CDC and Shannon traps were used in forests, outside houses and inside houses, also human landing was used. To search for mosquito larvae, breeding site inspections were done. A total of 146 individuals belonging to ten mosquito species were collected. The most abundant species were: An. pseudopunctipennis s.l. (48.6%), An. apicimacula (9.5%), An. oswaldoi s.l. (6.1%) and An. triannulatus s.l. (6.1%). An. nuneztovari showed restricted geographic distribution. The municipality of Girón had the highest number of species (8), followed by Zapatoca and Betulia municipalities (three species). The presence of An. argyritarsis larvae in artificial breeding sites was registered. Anopheles diversity and abundance in the study zone is low. In the study zone the malaria parasites are not circulating, however, due to the arrival of workers coming from other malaria endemic areas, we can conclude that malaria outbreaks in the zone could occurr.
