We investigated clinical and epidemiological aspects of intestinal coccidial infections in 187 inhabitants (X ± S.D.=25.74 ± 19.73 years) in the rural community of Urumaco, Falcón state, Venezuela, between September and December 2013. Direct smears and Kinyoun staining were used to perform parasitological diagnosis. The overall prevalence of intestinal parasitoses was 78.07% (146 /187), with Blastocystis spp. the most frequently parasite taxon observed (57.07 %). The prevalence of coccidioses was 50.80 % (95 /187), and among these criptosporidiasis was the most prevalent with 40.64% of patients infected. There were no statistically significant differences in parasite prevalence between sexes or ages (P>0.05). Hyporexia, epigastralgia and flatulence were significantly associated with the infections (P< 0.05). Dirty fingernails (Odds Ratio [OR]=1.33), fast food consumption (OR= 2.11), walking barefoot (OR=1.16), belonging to a lower socioeconomic level (OR= 2.89), animals roaming freely in the houses (OR= 1.01), untied animals (OR= 2.79), feeding animals with food waste (OR= 1.9) and a lack of anti-parasitic treatment (OR= 3.54) were determined as risk factors significantly associated with the transmission dynamics of enteric coccidiosis.
