Abstract

Currently, there is a notable paucity of information on bites and poisonings by centipede (Chilopoda) in Mexico. Some species of the Order Scolopendromorpha shows large body sizes (total length >10 cm) and commonly occurs in urban areas; which could be a latent risk for the residents. Here, we reported four cases of centipede bite (Scolopendra genus) in different regions of Mexico. The intoxication level varied in each case, from severe pains to presumed death by poisoning in a child. On the other hand, for first time, it is reported the use of scorpion antivenom in treating centipede bite; which could stimulate a new window research in relation to the toxins both scorpions and centipedes, and the application of similar treatments in accident cases. Although centipede bites and poisonings in Mexico are rare, it is important to establish a standardized medical protocol in public health institutions.
