LATTUF V, Emérita Gabriela y VERA, Jennifer. ¿Sábemos tomar la presión arterial en el paciente pediátrico?: Conocimiento de estudiantes de enfermería y personal de salud sobre la determinación de presión arterial en el paciente pediátrico. Hospital General Joaquina de Rotondaro. Tinaquillo, Edo. Cojedes. Rev. latinoam. Hipertens [online]. 2008, vol.3, n.3, pp.84-89. ISSN 1856-4550.
Introduction: Hypertension in pediatric is not a frequent pathology, nevertheless in the past few years, it has had important advances not only in its definition and managing, but also in its prevalence; it is calculated by many studies to be in 2% of the earlyyouthful population. There is not a clear definition of the exact number of this pathology in children, but the consensus have define it to have tensional numbers superior to P95 (95 percentile), depending on age, sex, and size. If it is known that the pathology diagnostic is relatively simple, just by measuring the blood pressure, is valid to question if the personnel in charged or that will be in charge of doing it has the adequate technique and the requisites that need to taken when applying the procedure in the pediatric patient. Objective: Determine the anatomical knowledge, theoretic and practical of nursing students and health personnel in the Hospital General Joaquina de Rotondaro, Tinaquillo Edo. Cojedes, on the measuring of blood pressure in the pediatric patient. Methods and Instruments: a non-experimental study was done, a descriptive research, in medicine students, nursing students, and health personnel (doctors and nurses) of the Hospital General Joaquina de Rotondaro, Tinaquillo Edo. Cojedes in June 2007. The research was conducted to 50 participants to which were subject to a predetermined interview. Results: Medicine students, general doctors, and nursing students were each represented by a 20% of the sample; the rest of the sample was conformed by doctors and nursing specialists. On measuring the blood pressure on children: 46% rarely measure it, 30% measure it daily, but not on all patients, 8% to all patients, and 15% never measure blood pressure. On the knowledge of the right technique to measure blood pressure in the pediatric patient 56% assure having the right knowledge, 28% fair knowledge, and the rest between deficient and complete ignorance. Over 56 % did not know have the anatomical knowledge necessary to do the procedure, the size of the sleeve and placement of the stethoscope constituted the more frequent mistakes with over 45 % of the total sample size. Rest and the importance of the positioning was right 68% overall. Conclusion: The majority of the population although they assure their knowledge on the subject was good, and the measuring blood pressure is done regularly, they are not familiar with the anatomical basics, and the adequate technique to do so. The most frequent mistakes were those of bigger importance at the time of the tensional numbers variation. The medicine and nursing students as well as the nursing personnel were the ones presenting the largest ignorance of the subject.
