Introduction:
Eruptive pathology can alter the chronology of eruption, resulting in early and late eruption. These eruption pathologies can be associated with local or systemic factors.
Objectives:
To identify alterations in the eruption chronology and associated factors, analyzing the different dental groups.
Material and methods:
Data were collected from 218 patients between 6 and 14 years of age seen at the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Seville from 2019 to 2024. Clinical histories and orthopantomographies were evaluated digitally and the data were statistically analyzed.
Results:
No significant association was found between the alterations in the eruption and the age groups or sex. Regarding the type of dentition, a statistically significant association was found with the second phase mixed dentition and the alteration in the eruption chronology (p <0.05). In incisors and canines, the most frequent alteration in the eruption chronology was delayed eruption, mainly due to lack of space and ectopic eruption respectively. Premolars showed a greater alteration in the eruption chronology (34%), with the former showing an advance due to premature loss of the temporary tooth and the latter a delay due to loss of space.
Conclusions:
41% of the sample showed an alteration in the eruption chronology (advance or delay), reflecting the importance of a correct diagnosis. Adequate clinical and radiological examination of eruptive pathology is necessary due to the importance of its early diagnosis and adequate treatment in pediatric dentistry.
