Prognostic factors are variables related to the patient, the tumor and the surgical treatment, which allow us to predict the evolution of the disease.
Objective:
To describe the prognostic factors in patients diagnosed with gastric cancer treated at the Digestive Tract Surgery Service of the Instituto de Oncología Luis Razetti, in Caracas, from january 2008 to december 2021.
Methods:
The study is a case review, descriptive, cross-sectional and observational. The mean and standard deviation were calculated for the quantitative variables, and the frequency and percentage were calculated for the qualitative variables. Survival curves were constructed using the Kaplan-Meier model.
Results:
46 patients with gastric cancer were evaluated. The average age was 58 ± 11 years. In the analysis of overall and disease-free survival, the statistically significant variables were: lymph vascular invasion, type of resection, type of dissection and number of affected nodes. The significant variables for relapse were: lymph vascular invasion and type of surgery.
