Abstract

BRAVO-RIVERA, Elisa; BUSTOS-MENDEZ, Vania; CAMPOS-CASTILLO, Sophia  and  DIAZ-LEVICOY, Danilo. GENDER ASPECTS IN ACTIVITIES ON STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY IN MATHEMATICS TEXTBOOKS FOR 1ST AND 2ND YEAR OF CHILEAN SECONDARY EDUCATION. Areté [online]. 2022, vol.8, n.16, pp.179-198.  Epub Apr 04, 2023. ISSN 2443-4566.  https://doi.org/10.55560/arete.2022.16.8.9.

In this research, the activities proposed in the units of statistics and probability in the first- and second-year of Chilean Secondary Education mathematics textbooks in public and private editions were analyzed, identifying those that presented characters and categorizing them according to the appearances of each genre, action performed, role of the character, way of dressing, setting, attitude of dependency and age of the character. A qualitative methodology was employed, supported by the interpretive paradigm. A greater difference in the presence of the male and female gender was found in the activities of the private edition; however, when making a global comparison of the four books analyzed this difference decreases, since both genders are presented in similar quantities in the public editions. It is concluded that the female gender is present more often in textbooks in comparison with previous years, although its presence is still lower than that of the male.
