Abstract
SEPULVEDA OBREQUE, Alejandro et al. Scientific Thinking Skills in Natural Science’s Textbooks. Areté [online]. 2023, vol.9, n.17, pp.43-61. Epub July 28, 2023. ISSN 2443-4566. https://doi.org/10.55560/arete.2023.17.9.2.
This paper analyzes the scientific thinking skills advocated in the seventh and eighth grade natural science - textbooks, didactic support resources, of the Chilean Ministry of Education. A mixed methodology was used for the analysis. From the qualitative method, an analysis of documents was conducted based on guidelines that allowed curricular base and textbook examination. From the quantitative method, a descriptive analysis was carried out through a checklist, which was prepared and applied under the Chona et al criteria (2004). The results indicate high consistency between the scientific thinking skills declared in the Curriculum Bases, the specialized literature and the didactic activities presented in the seventh and eighth grade textbooks. Investigative and basic stand out above reflective-critical skills. It can be concluded that these textbooks fundamentally promote elementary scientific thinking skills.
