This systematic review analyzes social representations in Latin American prison contexts, based on the need to understand how collective perceptions influence prison dynamics and rehabilitation. A mixed methodology was employed, integrating qualitative and quantitative analysis of studies published between 2016-2024, identified through systematic searches in academic databases. The results show three main findings: the prevalence of common challenges such as violence and overcrowding, the significant influence of social representations on criminal recidivism, and the critical need for specific interventions for high-risk populations. It is concluded that understanding social representations is fundamental to improving prison policies and rehabilitation programs, especially in high-risk cases. This study contributes to the development of more effective interventions in the Latin American prison system.
