This research is based on the need to identify the transcomplex competencies of school principals in multigrade environments, where they face multiple responsibilities with limited resources. The study aimed to unveil the transcomplex competencies possessed by principals of public multigrade primary education centers in School District 07-01 of Tenares, Dominican Republic. An interpretive-descriptive qualitative approach was used, employing in-depth interviews, observation, and focus groups with ten participants selected through purposive sampling. Data were processed with Atlas.ti and analyzed through triangulation. The results revealed sixteen fundamental transcomplex competencies, highlighting self-management, resilience, leadership, innovation capacity, conflict management, effective communication, and community engagement. A gap was evidenced between formal directive selection mechanisms and actual designation practices. It is concluded that these competencies transcend traditional technical skills, configuring a directive profile adapted to educational contexts with limited resources, making it necessary to reconsider the selection, training, and evaluation processes of multigrade principals to value both academic training and transcomplex competencies developed through experience.
