Faculty leadership in higher education is a fundamental element for enhancing educational quality. This systematic review examines its characteristics and influence on the teaching-learning process, aiming to provide practical recommendations for its strengthening. A mixed methodological design was implemented integrating qualitative perspectives, analyzing perceptions and teaching experiences, and quantitative perspectives, evaluating correlations between leadership and student performance. Data collection was conducted in databases such as Scopus, Web of Science, and SciELO, selecting empirical research from the last five years focused on university contexts. Results highlight the relevance of educational leadership in mobilizing and influencing others to convey visions and achieve academic goals, positively impacting student performance, creating favorable environments, and implementing innovative pedagogical strategies. It concludes that transformative and inclusive teaching leadership is essential for creating dynamic learning communities, recommending the strengthening of competencies such as effective communication, empathy, and adaptability to respond to contemporary educational challenges.
