Developing an individual's skills to face today's world is not an easy task, since we are immersed in an impressive race to fit into the information society, which has generated that, in the last 20 years, the development of competencies for the 21st century has been re-envisioned. From this context, this documentary-bibliographic article is presented, which was developed with the purpose of describing the role of the educator in the development of life skills in students. From the results, it is stated that the teacher is fundamental in the development of emotional, social and cognitive skills for the life of students; therefore, he/she must be a great strategist to deploy spaces where the problems, needs and interests of these students are the central axis of the training process, assuming that they are dynamic agents.
