The current manuscript seeks to analyze the blue economy as a bet for a sustainable business world from a review of scientific literature with the intention of knowing the bibliographic contributions on the subject. Documentary descriptive type. The blue economy is a term generated in recent years as an alternative to the model of economic exploitation of nature, it seeks sustainability over time, developing with greater emphasis on the maritime sector, it refers to providing sustainable business alternatives, especially blue carbon (the carbon stored in mangrove ecosystems, seagrasses and marshes, which will return to), new aquaculture products, marine renewable energy (which in turn includes wind, wave and tidal energy), bioproducts (pharmaceuticals and agrochemicals); However, the blue economy at the maritime level represents a conflict of interests in traditional areas such as oil and gas; its application in Latin America is very limited.
