The current article entitled "Interactive didactic strategies for the development of literacy skills in elementary and middle school" had the objective of analyzing the development of reading and writing abilities in elementary school students. For the methodology, a quantitative approach was used under the descriptive method, whose sample consisted of 30 elementary and middle school students belonging to the Santa María de los Ángeles Educational Institution, Cotocollao- Quito. Classroom observation and a survey were the techniques applied to teachers by means of a questionnaire with closed questions. As a result, the literacy skills constituted a fundamental competence for success and active participation, fostering critical reflection and a dynamic teaching-learning process. In conclusion, it was pointed out that these strategies motivated students to improve their reading and writing skills to face the challenges of secondary education and beyond.
