The purpose of this article was to interpret the metaverse as a strategy for the promotion of digital education. The methodology used was qualitative in nature, which led to the conceptualization of terms related to the metaverse. By means of an aprioristic categorization matrix and interviews with 5 experts, a non-experimental design was adopted; therefore, hermeneutics was used for the analysis and understanding of the data originated from the interviews to the informants; from there, the metaverse in education emerged as the base category. The results showed that the metaverse, virtual reality and augmented reality provide a positive experience for the student. In conclusion, the need to apply effective pedagogical strategies for the development of digital skills and an adequate selection of content and competencies was pointed out.
