Abstract

The general objective was to determine the generation and final disposal of solid waste in the Cajamarca Region of Peru, 2016-2020. The research corresponds to a descriptive study with a non-experimental design. The unit of analysis consisted of 127 Districts and Provinces of the Cajamarca Region. It has been determined that regarding the final destination of municipal solid waste collected in the Cajamarca Region, 81.9% ends up in landfills; 20.5% in sanitary landfills; 13.4% is recycled; 7.1% is burned and/or incinerated and only 3.9% ends up in composting, treatment plants and transitory cells. It has been determined that 0.12% of municipalities in the Cajamarca Region have final disposal infrastructure for the solid waste collected, 4.7% have sanitary landfills, 42.06% of waste is disposed of properly, 57.94% is disposed of improperly and 100% of areas are degraded for recovery.
