The objective of this article was to identify the strategies applied in solid waste management in Latin America. A descriptive documentary research with bibliographic design was developed in a population of 24 scientific articles. Adequate solid waste management is presented as an essential component to face current environmental challenges, requiring an effective and efficient approach. Strategies implemented in various regions of Latin America have underlined the importance of collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as the need to implement public policies aimed at environmental preservation. The importance of reducing waste generation and favoring recycling as an integral part of these strategies is emphasized.
