The general objective of the research was to analyze the conceptual approach to linkage and university service at the Autonomous University of Chapingo, Mexico. The study was carried out from a quantitative perspective, through the recovery, compilation and critical analysis of documentary and bibliographic references. In this sense, from a documentary bibliographic design. It was also supported by analytical- synthetic and inductive-deductive methods. It is concluded that, the substantive functions Liaison, Extension and Service, must be defined in terms of institutional identity, within the framework of the reason for the UACh: the Mexican rural environment as well as in the context of its economic, socio-cultural and technological transformations that merit an effective relationship, which enhances the link of the University through intervention strategies through projects that enhance agricultural and rural development.
