The objective of this review article was to analyze the foundations of environmental awareness in elementary school students found in articles published in Redalyc and Scielo. The methodology for this research was related to the qualitative approach, considering the literature review method. As a result, it was possible to have an understanding of the social learning perspective as a theory that explains the way in which children manage to acquire environmental awareness so that, subsequently, they develop a behavioral empowerment that benefits the environment. Therefore, it is concluded that scientific theoretical foundations help to promote the importance of environmental education to enrich environmental awareness under ethics.
