This study proposed a conceptualization of "marsh territory" for Lake Texcoco, where physical transformations have compromised the reproduction of the original lake lifestyle. Methodologically, the study was carried out under a qualitative approach with ethnographic method. Among the results, the relationships of territorial actors, water and land resources, as well as the environmental and social impact processes, derived from the modalities of use, appropriation, expropriation and other purposes of the land, were described; these elements were analyzed from different spaces of the complex system. The research was concluded by proposing the concept of "rururban marshland territory", as a way of referring to the current area of wetlands and ponds present in the territory.
